Weight Loss Clinic Serving Bristol, TN and VA

Care provided by Eddie Hughes, FNP-BC. Updated October 2026.

Bristol has two of everything: two states, two city governments, two sets of license plates on State Street. When it comes to medical weight loss, a lot of people from both sides end up making the same drive.

Peak Performance Wellness & Aesthetics is about 30 minutes south on Bristol Highway in Johnson City. Eddie Hughes, FNP-BC, starts with your labs and a body composition scan, so your plan is built on your own numbers instead of a guess. When it fits your health history, he prescribes semaglutide or tirzepatide.

Most patients pay $200 to $500 a month, with no contract, so you are never locked into something that is not working for you.

Which side of State Street are you on?

It changes a few practical things. It does not change your care.

Bristol, Tennessee

Same state as the clinic

No state line between you and the clinic, so there is nothing extra to sort out. You come in, Eddie sees you, and your plan starts here.

Bluff City and Piney Flats patients are already halfway here.

Bristol, Virginia

Seen in person in Tennessee

Virginia patients, including many from Abingdon, are seen at our Johnson City clinic, in person, by the same provider.

Peak is a self-pay clinic, so your visit price does not change. If you hope a Virginia plan will cover brand-name medication, call them first and ask.

The drive from Bristol

The clinic sits on the same highway that runs out of Bristol, so there is no cross-town maze at the end of it.

Bristol to Peak

30minutes, about

Weekly shots happen at home, so this is a drive for visits and follow-ups, not every week.

  1. Leave Bristol on US-11E/19Head south out of town toward Bluff City.
  2. Through Bluff CityStay on 11E/19W as it crosses Boone Lake.
  3. It becomes Bristol HighwaySame road, new name as you reach Johnson City.
  4. 3980 Bristol HighwayPeak Performance, Johnson City, TN 37601.

A few things make the trip easier. Your first visit covers your evaluation, labs, body composition scan, and plan in one appointment of about 45 to 60 minutes, so you leave that first day with a plan, not a second appointment. We are open until 6 PM on Thursdays, so you can come after work without taking time off. When the schedule has room, we can often see you the day you call.

Could a GLP-1 work for you?

Answer five quick questions to see how the FDA criteria line up with your situation. Nothing you enter leaves this page.

Two-minute check1 of 5

Could a GLP-1 be right for you?

Start with your height and weight. We use them to work out your BMI, which is the first thing the FDA criteria look at.

Do you have any of these?

Pick all that apply. A weight-related condition can change which options fit you.

Have you or anyone in your family had medullary thyroid cancer, or do you have MEN 2?

These are rare, but they matter. Every GLP-1 medication carries a warning for both.

Are you pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to get pregnant?

GLP-1 medications aren’t used during pregnancy.

Two last things

Neither one rules you out. They tell Eddie what to look at first.

Have you ever had pancreatitis or gallbladder problems?

Are you on a GLP-1 right now, like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Zepbound, or a compounded version?

Your answers stay on this page. Nothing is sent or saved.

Semaglutide or tirzepatide

These are the two medications most Bristol patients ask about. Both are weekly injections you give at home.

SemaglutideTirzepatide
Brand namesWegovy for weight, Ozempic for type 2 diabetesZepbound for weight, Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes
How it worksActs on GLP-1, one appetite hormoneActs on GLP-1 and GIP, two appetite hormones
Average loss in trialsAbout 15 percent of starting weight over 68 weeks (STEP 1)About 21 percent on the top dose over 72 weeks (SURMOUNT-1)
At PeakStarts at $200 a monthMost patients pay $200 to $500 a month, depending on medication and dose

Higher average loss does not make tirzepatide the right pick for everyone. Your history, side effects, coverage, and budget all matter, and some patients start on one and switch.

Eddie can prescribe FDA-approved brand-name options. When one cannot meet a patient’s individual medical needs, a provider may decide a compounded medication is appropriate under federal and state rules. Compounded medications are not FDA approved and were not used in the trials above.

More detail lives on our semaglutide, tirzepatide, and GLP-1 weight loss medications pages.

What the monthly price covers

  • Labs before a plan. Thyroid, blood sugar, hormones, vitamin D, B vitamins, and iron all affect how weight comes off. Checking them first means you finally know why the weight has been stuck. Labs are priced on their own.
  • A body composition scan. It separates fat, muscle, and water, so you can watch fat come off and muscle stay on, even in a week when the scale barely moves.
  • One provider. Eddie prescribes, adjusts your dose, and sees you at follow-ups, which means you never have to retell your story to someone new.
  • Medication, follow-ups, and nutrition guidance. All in the monthly price, with no contract, cancellation fee, or package to buy up front.
  • Someone to call between visits. Side effects, a stall, a dose question. You reach the office that knows your plan, so a rough week gets handled before it turns into a rough month.

Questions from Bristol patients

Is there a weight loss clinic in Bristol, TN?

Bristol has several weight loss options. Many Bristol patients also drive about 30 minutes to Peak Performance in Johnson City for one provider who orders labs, tracks body composition, and manages their dose over time.

Do you see patients from Bristol, Virginia?

Yes. Patients from Bristol, VA and Abingdon are seen in person at our Johnson City, Tennessee clinic.

Is it worth driving past closer options?

That depends on what you need. The drive gets you one provider who knows your history, labs and body scans built into the plan, and a clear monthly price with no contract.

How often will I need to come to Johnson City?

Not every week. You give yourself your weekly injection at home and come in for follow-ups, dose changes, and scans on a schedule Eddie sets with you.

Does my insurance cover weight loss shots?

Sometimes. Coverage depends on your plan, and often on your BMI and conditions like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or sleep apnea. Peak is self-pay for visits. If your plan covers a brand-name option, Eddie can prescribe Wegovy or Zepbound.

Can I keep my regular doctor in Bristol?

Yes. Keep your primary care provider for your other health needs and tell them what you are taking. Diabetes and blood pressure medications sometimes need adjusting as you lose weight, so it helps to have both of us in the loop.

I am already on a GLP-1 from another provider. Can I switch?

Yes. Bring what you are taking, your current dose, and how it has been going. Eddie reviews your history and labs and decides whether to continue, adjust, or change medications.
